Vocabulary
theme--an idea that keeps coming up in a book, movie, poem, etc.
nonfiction--a genre based on facts, real events, and real people
fiction--a genre that describes imaginary situations and people
realistic fiction--fiction that's like real life
autobiography--the story of a person's own life; this genre usually deals with many events]
memoir--a genre that deals with a specific event or time in a person's life
narrative--writing that tells a story
conflict--the problem in a story
sensory details--writing that uses the five senses
lead--the opening sentence or sentences in an article or story
Parts of a Paragraph:
topic sentence--tells what the main idea of the paragraph is
details--gives information that supports your main idea (there are usually three of these)
concluding sentence--reminds your reader what the paragraph really means
